Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin

The fifty-seven year old Aztec indian who was contacted by the Virgin of Guadalupe. Diego’s tilma or cape bears her famous image and hangs over the high altar in the basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City.

Juan Diego was canonized on July 31, 2002, becoming the first Native American Roman Catholic saint.
