A civilization which looks [like an] almost exact duplicate but is worse off than the current U.S. civilization.

According to some accounts of Scientological doctrine, the Earth is in fact a prison for outcast souls from the Markab Confederacy, and the Confederacy enforces control by creating fake religions in order to hide the truth of reincarnation. (Cult Rapture, 18)
