(January 1, 1912 – November 16, 2003)

An art director who worked on various films for Paramount Pictures. He is perhaps best known for his design of the alien ships from the 1953 film The War of the Worlds.

Born in Japan, he immigrated to America with his parents when he was 3. He became a U.S. citizen in 1954.

From 1938, Nozaki lived in Echo Park, California.

Shortly after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, Nozaki was abruptly fired from Paramount. In the spring of 1942, he and his wife, Lorna, were sent to Manzanar internment camp. He was allowed to leave in 1943, after signing a loyalty oath. Nozaki worked as an industrial designer in Chicago until returning to Paramount after the war.

In an Art Directors Guild Film Society interview in 2000, Nozuki said that the organic shape of the alien ships came to him in July 1951 on a Sunday afternoon at home: “the shape of a sea creature flashed across my mind.”

In an interview with the Wanderling, Nozuki said he based some of the design of the craft — such as their downward-curved wings and overall ominous feeling — on a huge silent object that flew directly over him during the Battle of Los Angeles, in the early morning of Feb 25 1942.

Francis Joseph Xavier Scully
(28 April 1892 – 23 June 1964)

Dana Scully from The X-Files television series is named after him.

Knight of the Pontifical Order of St. Gregory the Great (1956)

Author of Behind the Flying Saucers (1950)

In October and November 1949, Scully published two columns in Variety, claiming that dead extraterrestrial beings were recovered from a flying saucer crash, based on what he said was reported to him by a scientist involved. His 1950 book Behind the Flying Saucers expanded on the theme, adding that there had been two such incidents in Arizona and one in New Mexico, a 1948 incident that involved a saucer that was nearly 100 feet (30 m) in diameter.

In 1952 and 1956, True magazine published articles by San Francisco Chronicle reporter John Philip Cahn that exposed Newton and “Dr. Gee” (identified as Leo A. GeBauer) as oil con artists.

Sixth person on the Moon.

Buzz Aldrin described a psychic communication experiment that Mitchell conducted during the Apollo 14 flight, wherein Mitchell attempted to transmit information to an observer on the ground. Aldrin stated that the experiment was a complete failure.

In 2004 he told the St. Petersburg Times that a “cabal of insiders” in the U.S. government were studying recovered alien bodies, and that this group had stopped briefing U.S. Presidents after John F. Kennedy.[12] He said, “We all know that UFOs are real; now the question is where they come from.”

On July 23, 2008 Edgar Mitchell was interviewed on Kerrang Radio by Nick Margerrison. Mitchell claimed the Roswell crash was real and that aliens have contacted humans several times, but that governments have hidden the truth for 60 years, stating: “I happen to have been privileged enough to be in on the fact that we’ve been visited on this planet, and the UFO phenomenon is real.” In reply, a spokesman for NASA stated: “NASA does not track UFOs. NASA is not involved in any sort of cover up about alien life on this planet or anywhere in the universe. Dr Mitchell is a great American, but we do not share his opinions on this issue.”

Located approximately 22 miles (35 km) northeast of Lancaster, California next to next to Rogers Dry Lake, which acts as a natural extension to the runways, and which has the largest compass rose in the world.

Location of Chuck Yeager’s flight that broke the sound barrier in the Bell X-1, the flights of America’s first jet (the Bell XP-59A Airacomet), and the first landings of the Space Shuttle.

A water stop on the Southern Pacific Railroad since 1876, the site was largely unsettled until the early 20th century. In 1910, Ralph, Clifford and Effie Corum built a homestead on the edge of Rogers Lake. They named it “Muroc,” a reversal of the name “Corum” (because there was already a town named Corum).

Lieutenant Colonel Henry H. “Hap” Arnold began the process of acquiring land next to the Rogers dry lake for a new bombing range away from population areas in August 1932, initially referred to as “Mohave Field,” became Muroc Field. When Arnold became Chief of the Air Corps in 1938, the service was given a renewed focus on Research and Development.

Pancho Barnes, built her renowned Rancho Oro Verde Fly-Inn Dude Ranch that would be the scene of many parties and celebrations to come. The dry lake was a hive of hot rodding, with racing on the dry lakes. The runway that the Space Shuttle landed on follows the route that hosted racing in the 1930s

In the spring of 1942, however, the immense volume of flight test already being conducted at Wright Field, in Ohio, was one of the factors driving a search for a new site where a “Top Secret” airplane could undergo tests.

In October 1944, a small detachment arrived at the base for experimental work in rocket firing and achieved much success.

As an Air Foce Base, Muroc Army Air Field was named in honor of Captain Glen Walter Edwards (1918-1948) who flew 50 missions in North Africa during World War II. He became a test pilot in 1943 and spent much of his time at Muroc Army Air Field, testing experimental prototype aircraft. He died in the crash of a Northrop YB-49 Flying Wing near Muroc on 5 June 1948.

The crash killed the pilot, Major Daniel Forbes (for whom Forbes Air Force Base was named), Captain Edwards, co-pilot (after whom Edwards Air Force Base is named), and three other crew members, one of whom, Lt. Edward Lee Swindell was a crew member on the Boeing B-29 that assisted Chuck Yeager in breaking the sound barrier in the Bell X-1 aircraft.

The 1953 film, War of the Worlds incorporates Northrop color footage of a YB-49 test flight, originally used in Paramount’s Popular Science theatrical shorts of the era — the Flying Wing is used to drop an atomic bomb on the invading Martians. (was Captain Edwards flying the YB-49 in this footage?)

Air Force Rocket Research Laboratory

This facility traces its roots to early Army Air Corps activities.
For more than half a century, the facility and its personnel, teamed together with government and industrial partners, have provided the United States with rocket propulsion that fits the needs of the nation and anticipates the future of propulsion technology. The Edwards Research Site, sometimes called ‘The Rock’, or simply ‘The Lab’ by those who work there, is part of the AFRL Propulsion Directorate, which is headquartered at the Wright Research Site, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio.

Officially: Home of The Supreme Council, 33°, Ancient & Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Southern Jurisdiction, Washington D.C., U.S.A.

The full name of the Supreme Council is: The Supreme Council (Mother Council of the World) of the Inspectors General Knights Commander of the House of the Temple of Solomon of the Thirty-third degree of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry of the Southern Jurisdiction of the United States of America.

The House of the Temple appears in The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951). About one hour into the movie, the extraterrestrial Klaatu causes all electricity on earth to cease. A Washington, D.C., motorcycle cop appears on the corner of 16th and S streets, N.W., vainly trying to start the engine, with the House of the Temple prominently in the background.

The building is the setting for several key scenes in the novel The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown.

The earliest versions involve demon-creatures controlled by an evil god, poking humans with torture sticks in an infernal pit. The most recent versions involve alien-creatures controlled by an evil government poking humans with torture sticks in an infernal pit.
