Giordano Bruno

giordano bruno

(1548-February 17, 1600)

Italian philosopher, priest, astronomer/astrologer, and occultist.

Bruno is perhaps best known for his system of mnemonics and as an early proponent of the idea of extra-solar planets and extraterrestrial life.

Burned at the stake as a heretic for his theological ideas, Bruno is seen as a martyr to the cause of free thought.

Maury Island Incident

One of the first and most totemic episodes of the modern UFO era.

On or around June 21, 1947, something may or may not have happened involving a malfunctioning UFO, a dead dog, nuclear waste, Men in Black and a brutal cover-up…

To some in the UFO community, the Maury Island Incident is still highly controversial, dismissed by many as a complete fabrication by the wildly imaginative and conspiracy-obsessed Fred Crisman, while others think it may be among the most important encounters in modern times.

Still others speculate that the incident, although clearly a hoax, was employed by the US government to draw public attention away from claims hazardous waste from a breeder reactor located in nearby Hanford was being secretly and unlawfully dumped on Maury Island.

california institute of the arts

California Institute of the Arts

aka: Calarts

Located in the master-planned community of Valencia near Lancaster. Founded in the late 1960’s by disney walt as an animation trade school which would bring artists from several media into carefully controlled proximity of one another. One of the first American colleges to focus only on arts education. One rumor suggests that the charmless architecture of the main building was designed so it could serve as a hospital should the school fail financially. Another suggests that the cryogenically preserved head of Walt Disney, who died just before the school’s opening in 1970, is stored in a subterranian vault beneath the main building.

Familiarity with the Insititute’s unfortunate architecture quickly proves it’s inability to conceal anything so interesting. However when the campus was heavily damaged in the 1994 Silmar earthquake, some classes were held in former high-security Lockheed hangers.

close encounter

Sightings more than 500 feet from the witness are classified as Daylight Discs”, Nocturnal Lights”or Radar/Visual Reports”. Sightings within about 500 feet are subclassified as various close encounters”.

A system first suggested by J. Allen Hynek in his 1972 book The UFO Experience: A Scientific Study.

Hynek’s original three levels of close enconter range from the first kind (unexplained odd lights, or non-human aerial objects) to the second (observation of physical evidence) to the third (observation of the occupants).

Later Ufologists suggested encounters of the forth kind (abduction) and the fifth kind (direct communication).

As contact with the alien became increasingly alienating, two more levels were suggested:

Close encounters of the sixth kind involves the death of a human or animal. See also:The Battle of Los Angeles

Close-encounters of the seventh kind involved genetic interchange between aliens and humans. See also:Antonio Villas-Boas

Kenneth Arnold

Often considered the first modern UFO witness.

Kenneth Arnold

While flying near Mount Rainier in Washington state on June 24 1947, Kenneth Arnold saw nine extremely fast moving disks skipping across the sky. An AP wire reporter described them as flying saucers” — a name which stuck. Due to the publicity surrounding his report, and because he was a professional pilot who seemed reasonably sane, Arnold became known worldwide as a respectable UFO figure.

At the urging of "Ray Palmer", Arnold was briefly involved with the "Maury Island Incident". He suspected that it was all a huge con by Fred Crisman or that it was some sort of intelligence operation.

Letter and drawing by Arnold regarding his sighting:

George Adamski

(d: April 24th 1965)

Adamski and Venusian Painting

One of the first American UFO contactees,”very influential upon all subsequent contactees and UFO contact literature. He claimed he saw his first saucer on October 9, 1946 — a black object like a giant dirigible. Thia was the year Maury Island Incident — Adamski he said he saw a long procession of saucers (either 184 or 204 of them) pass above Mount Palomar near San Diego.

As an interesting side note: the Robertson Panel took particular interest in an event at Mount Palomar in October 1949 when cosmic ray detectors went off scale for a few seconds,” in association with a V-shaped formation of UFOs (Peebles, 103)

At around noon on Thursday November 20, 1952, Adamski was out in the Long John Nebel describes Adamski’s next encounter:

On February 18, 1953, Adamski was picked up at his

Dan Fry rode in. And like that fortunate gentleman, Adamski found himself suddenly airborne.(Nebel, 46)

Adamski presented photographs which he said were aliens waving out the portholes of their spaceships, but which were more likely photos of hubcaps and hats.

Adamski was author of Flying Saucers Have Landed (1953), and with Desmond Leslie, author of Inside the Space Ships (1955).

Adamski was an associate of American Nazi party leader, william dudley pelley. Pelley may have been the one who introduced Adamski to George Hunt Williamson.

Pope John XXIII, who was dying of cancer at the time, allegedly permitted a private audience with him on 31st May, 1963. His mission was to deliver an important package, which he received from the space people in Copenhagen. This claim of course has been denounced by the Vatican, but circumstantial evidence suggests that such a meeting did take place. He traveled to the Vatican with two of his coworkers, May Morlet and Louise (Lou) Zinsstag. Both witnesses say that he entered the Vatican by a side entrance (explaining why there would be no records of his visit) and stayed for an hour. When he entered the room, Adamski claims the Pope smiled and said ‘I have been expecting you’ and when George handed him the package, the Pope replied ‘That is what I have been waiting for’. The Pope’s last words before Adamski left were, ‘My son, don’t worry, we will make it’.

Project Rainbow

Project RAINBOW is the name of two separate alleged United States secret military projects in the 20th Century, both concerned with stealth and radar invisibility. At least one recent, anonymous, writer in the UFO/conspiracy underground has linked the two projects, though this is by no means considered a mainstream viewpoint.

  1. The near-mythical 1943 Philadelphia Experiment, denied by all official sources and considered fictitious by mainstream historians, but a major element of UFO lore.
  2. A project in the 1950s United States Air Force stealth technology program, involving wires and ferrite cores mounted on the fuselage of the Lockheed U-2 aircraft. This Project RAINBOW is attested by mainstream historians of military technology. The project was considered a failure at the time, though it may have influenced later developments in stealth technology.

Ramon Lull

ramon lull

(1235 – June 29, 1315)

aka: Ramon Llull, Raymond Lully, Raimundus or Raymundus Lullus

Around 1275, Llull designed a method, which he first published in full in his Ars generalis ultima or Ars magna (1305), of combining attributes selected from a number of lists.

It was intended as a debating tool for winning Muslims to the Christian faith through logic and reason. Through his detailed analytical efforts, Llull built an in-depth theological reference by which a reader could enter in which an argument or question about the Christian faith. The reader would then turn to the appropriate index and page to find the correct answer.

lullian circle

Llull also invented numerous ‘machines’ for the purpose. One method is now called the Lullian Circle, each of which consisted of two or more paper discs inscribed with alphabetical letters or symbols that referred to lists of attributes. The discs could be rotated individually to generate a large number of combinations of ideas. A number of terms, or symbols relating to those terms, were laid around the full circumference of the circle. They were then repeated on an inner circle which could be rotated. These combinations were said to show all possible truth about the subject of the circle. Llull based this on the notion that there were a limited number of basic, undeniable truths in all fields of knowledge, and that we could understand everything about these fields of knowledge by studying combinations of these elemental truths.

The method was an early attempt to use logical means to produce knowledge. Llull hoped to show that Christian doctrines could be obtained artificially from a fixed set of preliminary ideas. For example, one of the tables listed the attributes of God: goodness, greatness, eternity, power, wisdom, will, virtue, truth and glory. Llull knew that all believers in the monotheistic religions – whether Jews, Muslims or Christians – would agree with these attributes, giving him a firm platform from which to argue.

The idea was developed further by ars combinatoria, by which it is now often known. Some computer scientists have adopted Llull as a sort of founding father, claiming that his system of logic was the beginning of information science.

Shroud of Turin

shroud of turin - jpg

The image on the Shroud has the quality of a photographic negative. The image is only on the surface of the cloth, there’s a high degree of anatomical detail combined with optical distortion, and negative reversals of the image on the Shroud are famously more clear than the Shroud itself (as one would expect when making a positive image out of a negative).

One explanation for the photographic quality of the image is the use of a camera obscura combined with an early photographic process — likely one of the closely guarded secrets of the alchemists. The line on the neck of the image and the differing distortion of body and head suggests that it was the result of two exposures, one using an actual corpse, and one using a sculpted face.

It is also suggested that one of the only contemporaneous people who was skilled enough, smart enough and sacrilegious enough to take the job was Leonardo daVinci.

The Priory’s list of grand masters are known by the old French title Nautononnier, meaning “navigator”or “helmsman.”

The term cybernetics is also derived from the Greek word for helmsman and originally referred to a science of social control. Navigator was also the name of a popular web browser, which was now bought by Time-Warner, who are now owned by AOL, who have an eye-in-the-pyramid logo.

Athanasius Kirchner

Athanasius Kircher

(May 2, 1602 – November, 28 1680)

Scientific superstar.

17th century German Jesuit scholar who published around 40 works, most notably in the fields of oriental studies, geology and medicine. He made an early study of Egyptian hieroglyphs. One of the first people to observe microbes through a microscope, he was thus ahead of his time in proposing that the plague was caused by an infectious microorganism and in suggesting effective measures to prevent the spread of the disease.

He has been compared to Leonardo da Vinci for his inventiveness and the breadth and depth of his work.

Ars Combinatoria

The combinatory work of The combinatory work of "Ramon Lull" as described and further theorized by "Gottfried Leibniz" in his early text, De Arte Combinatoria of 1666.

ars combinatoria

The main idea behind the text is that of an alphabet of human thought, which is attributed to Descartes. All concepts are nothing but combinations of a relatively small number of simple concepts, just as words are combinations of letters. All truths may be expressed as appropriate combinations of concepts, which can in turn be decomposed into simple ideas, rendering the analysis much easier. Therefore, this alphabet would provide a logic of invention, opposed to that of demonstration which was known so far. Since all sentences are composed of a subject and a predicate, one might…
